My View.
The topic of Tik Tok was chosen by me for my blog for a reason. Following all the above articles and resources, I repeat that Tik Tok has a huge impact on society and the life of young people in general. I myself, even as a teenager, first got acquainted with such a platform as Musical.ly first, which later entered the Tik Tok database and use it practically from the first days of its creation till nowadays. I started out as an ordinary teenager who was bored and who didn't want to study at all, not expecting that one social network could literally turn my life upside down because, since the beginning of the pandemic period, as well as the rest of the world, I began to actively use it that eventually, it became a consolation for me and a whole virtual reality where I could dive headlong and forget about problems in my personal life, with studies and the rest of the world. Tik Tok is not only entertainment for me, but also an instructive platform from which I learned more really important tips than those I have ever heard from adults. At the foundation of the social network, of course, are algorithms developed by artificial intelligence, so I most often, as a user, meet a lot of videos related to the topic of psychology, mental disorders, and solution methods, or just get psychological help and draw important information about people's perception, as if in a live format because they share their fears as if I were there with them In person. As an adult now, I have managed to filter out unwanted content related to violence, bullying of animals, and all kinds of malicious content in general, so the network does not trigger any negative consequences in me such as addiction, depression, lowness of self-confidence or apathy. But is everyone around, and especially children, capable of this? It seems to me that there is no actual clearness in this question why it is important to make this kind of an issue shouted out publicly as, for example, nervous tics caused by videos on this social network and many other consequences. Because no matter how good the system is, it is essential to remember that the media world can bring a lot of useful things in life, but on the other hand, it can also take away a lot of precious time or unexpectedly provoke a thirst for violence, aggression or depressive behavior in immature minds. Summing up all the work done, I wanted to show the other side of the coin and the “backstage” of the platform, which instantly occupied the whole world and is gaining popularity day by day or even hour by hour. Dear readers, please read the rules of the application’s policy carefully before using it and be on the alert when someone younger than you from your family or surrounding uses this network in order of avoiding undesirable consequences such as a disturbed subconscious of the child, harm from the viewed content, dependence on social media or simply its impact on the academic performance of your child. Thank you for your time and attention dedicated to my work! I hope that I was useful and even a little bit of a “guide” to the world of a huge virtual network!
Dear Liliya,
ReplyDeleteI'm very glad you decided to talk about the big "demon" of today's social media platforms. The fact that it is not only recording a video to your favorite song, but something that carries deeper humanitarian and societal issues was explained very well. As an excessive user of TikTok, it was nice to read about the other side of this social media platform.
Hello, Nikolai. Thank you very much. I appreciate your given feedback!
DeleteIt is good to see someone address the issue of TikTok in such a manner, the approach you have chosen is understandable one and relatable. Personally my view on TikTok is that it has gone way off the track, the original idea of it, was LipSync music/dance videos and unfortunately it has become something we see today. Once again the explanation of how it can affect users, it impact on society is great in the blog, explanation about dev of the platform, a little bit of history is all interesting.
ReplyDeleteThank you for writing about this, Liliya! I agree that Tiktok is a fantastic app for education, especially if your algorithm recommends videos that could help you with your daily struggles or even little tips from adults that you've never heard from adults in your life. I've learned many things from this app, from information about simple skincare or makeup to financial advice, being productive, and tips on books that changed my life. But I also think it's crucial to close the app and enjoy more of your "real" life sometimes as the app gets addictive.
ReplyDeleteHello Lilya! Unfortunately as a active TikTok user I have to agree on the importance about this issue. It is so scary how can one platform have such a power and impact so much. For me personally, I used to spend to much time on TikTok because time flies when you are entertained. I usually watched lot of cooking and learning videos but also lot of toxic things would show on my fy page and I would always get so anxious after spending time on this platform so I decided to delete it to be more ''offline''. It is great that you talk about this because It is one of the biggest platforms at the moment and creating an awareness about it is so important! good job!!
ReplyDeleteHello Liliya!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that the TikTok is somewhat a coin with two sides. At one side, you can receive really useful and interesting content with a lot of life-hacks, tips, advices, and beautiful content in this social media platform. I even started cooking some interesting and hard -to-cook food recipes by seeing some of the chefs using videos to show guides of how to cook them. So, this is one beneficial side of TikTok, which you discussed nicely.
On the other side, this social platform is filled with lots of toxic, harmful, and inappropriate content that is set by the AI algorithms that is hardly to change lately. Additionally, being exposed to Tik Tok is psychologically affect us, that we even cannot follow the time, and spend the day just watching videos. I faced the same issues there with content and time, so I have decided to set a time limit for using TikTok, and set the algorithms properly for my video recommendations. But other people could just being exposed for so long, and it is hard to identify the potential consequences there. So, it is important for raise the awareness about it, and you provided a thoughtful analysis of TikTok and raised that awareness.
So, thank you a lot for that blog, I really enjoyed reading it!
Hey, Liliya! I was already aware of the issues TikTok can cause, thus I didn't use it. However, your blog gave me a deeper understanding of the platform and dangers behind it, and the fact that right now TikTok is one of the most popular social media platforms out there makes me more concerned.
ReplyDeleteDear Lilia, thank you for this interesting and informative blog. Tiktok can really be a useful application where you can learn new information. However, do not forget that it can have a negative impact on our mental and physical health.
ReplyDeleteBest regards, Tomiris
Dear Lilia,
ReplyDeleteThank you for this interesting blog. I'm also an avid user of the app and while reading your posts I could only agree more and more with each issue you introduced. The design of the app is made addictive with the use of the algorithm, but this same algorithm is oftentimes feeding people the content they genuinely want to consume and form communities around.
Especially in areas where children are involved, it can become even more problematic as they do not/might not have the capacity to understand what is okay to post and what isn't. Additionally, the content that gets views and is pushed by the app can often be not the best in terms of what is in the video, feeding into the negative loop of virality chasing.
Overall, thank you for this very interesting blog, Natalia Lyskova
Hey Lilya! As a frequent user, I can relate to the issues you brought up. Not only spending too much time but also the content and the way it impacts us, even as adults… Thank you for picking Tik Tok as your topic for this blog, it is amazing that you decided to spread awareness about this! Awesome blog!
ReplyDeleteHello, I do not use TikTok for the main reason that it would influence me in many ways I cannot control however your blog has made me realised that there is a different side to tiktok other than just following trends and posting about your life. It has made me realise that tiktok is a platform with a lot of power and also has educational and helpful content. Thank you for bringing this to light.
